Phakding

Phakding is a small yet significant village located in the Khumbu region of Nepal, serving as a popular stop for trekkers heading towards Everest Base Camp. Situated at an altitude of 2,610 meters (8,563 feet), it lies along the Dudh Koshi River and is known for its scenic beauty, with lush green hills, pine forests, and the roaring river creating a peaceful ambiance. Most trekkers stay in Phakding on their first day after flying into Lukla, as it allows for gradual acclimatization before heading to higher elevations. The village is home to a variety of teahouses, lodges, and guesthouses, providing comfortable accommodation and meals to trekkers.

Beyond being a resting stop, Phakding offers cultural and natural attractions. The village is dotted with Buddhist prayer wheels, mani stones, and small monasteries, reflecting the strong Sherpa and Tibetan Buddhist influence in the region. Trekkers can take short walks to nearby Suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River, including the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge, which leads towards Namche Bazaar. The tranquil atmosphere, combined with its strategic location along the Everest trekking route, makes Phakding a charming and essential stop for those embarking on the Everest Base Camp Trek.
