Starting from Lukla, the gateway to the Khumbu region, the trek passes through Sherpa villages like Namche Bazaar and Dole, allowing travelers to experience the local culture and hospitality. An acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar ensures that trekkers are well-prepared for the high altitudes as they venture towards Gokyo Valley. Along the way, you'll encounter diverse terrains, including lush forests, rocky trails, and glacial moraines. Reaching Gokyo Ri is a highlight, offering unmatched sunrise views over the towering peaks of the Himalayas.

Whether you’re captivated by the beauty of the Himalayan landscape, the charm of Sherpa culture, or the challenge of high-altitude trekking, the Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek promises an unforgettable experience.

Major Highlights of the Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek

    • Gokyo Lakes: Marvel at the pristine, turquoise blue waters of the Gokyo Lakes, a collection of sacred glacial lakes at high altitude, offering a serene and magical landscape.
    • Panoramic Views from Gokyo Ri: Climbing Gokyo Ri (5,357 meters) provides spectacular sunrise and sunset views over Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu – four of the world's highest peaks.
    • Namche Bazaar: The vibrant Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar is a cultural hub of the Khumbu region, with markets, shops, and breathtaking Himalayan views, making it an ideal acclimatization spot.
    • Thonak Cho Lake (Fifth Lake): A lesser-visited gem, the Fifth Lake offers unparalleled views of the Cho Oyu base and the rugged mountains surrounding the Gokyo Valley.
    • Sherpa Culture: The trek provides insight into Sherpa culture and traditions, with friendly locals, traditional homes, monasteries, and prayer flags lining the trails.
    • Dole and Machhermo Valleys: These scenic valleys offer a tranquil trekking experience with lush forests, rhododendron blooms in spring, and captivating views of snow-capped peaks.
    • Unique Everest Views: From Gokyo Ri, you can witness a panoramic view of Everest from a unique vantage point, often regarded as one of the most beautiful views of the peak.

Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek Route Overview

The Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek is an exceptional journey through the Everest region, known for its serene lakes, unique trails, and breathtaking panoramic views. Starting with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, trekkers pass through charming Sherpa villages like Phakding and Namche Bazaar, the bustling heart of the Khumbu region. After an acclimatization stop in Namche, the trail diverges from the traditional Everest Base Camp path, leading toward the quieter, scenic Gokyo Valley. Along the way, trekkers encounter lush pine forests, high-altitude terrains, and the chance to experience authentic Sherpa culture and hospitality in remote mountain settlements like Dole and Machhermo.

The highlight of the trek is reaching the turquoise Gokyo Lakes, nestled at high altitudes and framed by the towering peaks of the Himalayas. An early morning climb to Gokyo Ri rewards trekkers with sweeping views of four of the world’s tallest mountains – Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu – offering one of the most iconic panoramas in Nepal. The trek back retraces through scenic landscapes, gradually descending to Lukla. This journey combines a challenging high-altitude trek with serene, less-crowded trails, perfect for adventure-seekers and nature enthusiasts seeking an alternative to the classic Everest Base Camp route.

Trip Alternative Options for Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek

    • Everest Base Camp Trek: The classic trek to Everest Base Camp is ideal for those looking to reach the foot of Mount Everest. It’s a culturally immersive journey through iconic Sherpa villages and offers breathtaking views of the Khumbu Icefall and surrounding peaks.
    • Three Passes Trek: This challenging trek covers three high passes – Kongma La, Cho La, and Renjo La – providing panoramic views of the Everest region. It's perfect for experienced trekkers seeking a strenuous adventure with diverse landscapes.
    • Everest View Trek: A shorter, less demanding trek that offers stunning views of Mount Everest without the high-altitude challenges. Ideal for those with limited time who still want a taste of the Everest region’s beauty.
    • Gokyo Lakes and Everest Base Camp Trek: This combines the Gokyo Lakes route with the Everest Base Camp trail, allowing trekkers to experience both the serene lakes of Gokyo and the iconic base camp. It’s a longer trek with diverse scenery.
    • Annapurna Circuit Trek: For a change of scenery, the Annapurna Circuit offers breathtaking mountain views, lush forests, and high-altitude passes like Thorong La. This trek is ideal for those seeking varied landscapes outside the Everest region.

      June 16, 2022

Thank you Luxury Holidays Nepal (LHN) for making my trip, the trip of a lifetime. The whole member of the LHN was really good and responsive to good perfection. All staff was good with all the qualified guides and porters with also good English and kind nature. Actually, they were all far better than the other staff and companies in my view. Everything which was provided for us such as accommodation, and meals was really fine and the services which we got from the LHN were amazing and fabulous of all in case of a meal, hotel, facilities and all. Most importantly the trek to Everest Region was the best moment that I could have ever imagined that would have happened in my life. Actually, each moment of my whole trip was far better than my expectation and it is all because of the warm support and consideration of the LHN.

    Good to Know

    Flight Information

For the Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek, travelers will need to book flights to and from Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu. On the second day of the itinerary, a scheduled early morning flight will take you from Kathmandu to Lukla, which typically lasts about 30 minutes. This flight is crucial as Lukla serves as the gateway to the Everest region. The return flight from Lukla to Kathmandu also occurs early in the morning on the penultimate day of the trek, ensuring travelers are back in Kathmandu for their final departure.

    Nepal Visa Information

All foreign nationals, except Indian citizens, require a visa to enter Nepal. Visas are available on arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, but it's recommended to check current regulations before travel due to potential changes in visa policies. Visitors need to provide passport photographs and a visa fee, which can vary based on the length of stay. It's advisable to have exact change in USD to facilitate a smoother entry process.

    Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is essential for the Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek due to the remote and challenging nature of the trek. Your insurance should cover medical treatment, emergency evacuation, and trip cancellation or interruption. Make sure that the policy covers trekking activities up to altitudes of at least 5,500 meters, as Gokyo Ri is a high-altitude trek.

    Health and Physical Fitness

Participants in the Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek should be in good health and have excellent physical fitness. The trek involves walking for multiple days in a row, often in steep and rough terrain, and at high altitudes that can pose a challenge even to experienced trekkers. Pre-trip fitness training is highly recommended, and it's advisable to consult with a healthcare provider before embarking on the trek.

    Weather Conditions

The weather in the Everest region can be highly unpredictable. Daytime temperatures may be warm, while nighttime temperatures at higher altitudes can drop below freezing. The trekking seasons (spring and autumn) offer the clearest skies and the most stable weather, but conditions can change rapidly, bringing in cold winds and snow. Always be prepared with appropriate clothing and equipment for variable weather conditions.

    Altitude Considerations

Altitude sickness is a significant risk on the Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek, which reaches altitudes over 5,000 meters. Acclimatization days, such as the one scheduled in Namche Bazaar, are critical to allow the body to adjust to decreased oxygen levels. Symptoms of altitude sickness include headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. Trekkers should drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, and inform their guide if symptoms appear.

    Cultural Considerations

Nepal is rich in cultural diversity, and respecting local customs is essential for a harmonious experience. While trekking, dress modestly and ask for permission before photographing people or religious sites. In many places, it is customary to walk around stupas and other religious monuments in a clockwise direction. Always use your right hand to eat, give, or receive items, as the left is considered impure. Being polite and showing respect to local traditions will enhance your interaction with the local communities.

    Tipping Guidelines

Tipping is customary in Nepal and greatly appreciated by guides, porters, and service staff, though it is not mandatory. A general guideline for tipping is about 10% of the cost of your trek or around $5 to $10 per day for guides and $3 to $5 per day for porters. The exact amount can vary based on the size of your group, the length of the trek, and your satisfaction with the service provided.

    Safety & Security

Safety is a priority for Luxury Holidays Nepal. While Nepal is generally safe for travelers, it’s advisable to take standard precautions. Keep valuables secure and be cautious in crowded areas to avoid pickpocketing. On the trail, follow your guide’s advice, particularly regarding weather conditions, trail safety, and wildlife encounters. In Kathmandu, be wary of traffic and secure your belongings, especially in tourist-heavy areas like Thamel.

    Currency and Money Matters

The Nepalese Rupee (NPR) is the local currency. It is advisable to exchange some currency into NPR upon arrival in Kathmandu, as rural areas during the trek may not support other currencies or credit cards. ATMs are widely available in Kathmandu and Pokhara but are rarer in remote areas. Ensure you carry sufficient cash in smaller denominations for miscellaneous expenses and tips. Credit cards are accepted in major cities but carry a high transaction fee, so using cash is generally more economical.

    Transportation

Transportation for the Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek includes domestic flights from Kathmandu to Lukla and back. These flights are notorious for delays due to weather, so flexibility in travel plans is crucial. On the trail, walking is the primary mode of transportation. In Kathmandu, travelers have access to taxis, buses, and, more recently, ride-sharing services for moving around the city. Luxury Holidays Nepal ensures all airport transfers and necessary ground transportation are arranged for convenience and safety.

    Electricity and Charging

Electricity in Nepal is 220-240 volts, with a frequency of 50Hz. The power plugs used are types C, D, and M. It’s advisable to bring a universal adapter. In Kathmandu and Lukla, electricity is generally reliable, but power outages can occur. Along the trek, many teahouses offer charging facilities for a small fee, but electricity availability can be less reliable. Carrying additional battery packs or solar chargers is recommended, especially for charging cameras and mobile phones.

    Festivals and Public Holidays

Nepal celebrates an array of festivals, influenced by Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Notable festivals include Dashain (late September to early October), Tihar (October or November), and Holi (March). During these times, businesses may close or operate on reduced hours, but the festive atmosphere and unique cultural experiences can greatly enhance your visit. Luxury Holidays Nepal can advise on how these festivals might affect your trekking schedule.

    Food and Dining

Nepalese cuisine is varied and influenced by its ethnic diversity and geography. The staple food for most Nepali people is dal bhat (lentil soup, rice, and vegetables), which is available in almost every teahouse on the trek. Other popular dishes include momo (dumplings), thukpa (noodle soup), and Tibetan bread. In Kathmandu, a wide range of international cuisines is available. It’s important to drink only bottled or purified water throughout your stay in Nepal.

    Cancellations and Weather-Related Changes

The weather in the high Himalayas can be unpredictable, and flights to and from Lukla are particularly weather-dependent. It’s common for flights to be delayed or cancelled due to poor weather. Luxury Holidays Nepal has contingency plans for such events, including adjusting trek schedules or arranging alternative transportation if necessary. Travel insurance that covers trip cancellations and interruptions is highly recommended.

    Language and Communication

Nepali is the official language, with many ethnic groups also speaking their own languages. English is widely spoken in tourist areas, including Kathmandu and along the trekking routes. Most guides and some locals in the hospitality industry will be able to communicate effectively in English. Having a few basic phrases in Nepali can be helpful and is greatly appreciated by the locals.

    Trekking Permits and Regulations

All trekkers in Nepal must obtain the necessary permits for trekking in the Everest region. For the Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek, you will need a TIMS (Trekker's Information Management System) card and a Sagarmatha National Park permit. These permits help maintain the trails, contribute to conservation efforts, and ensure the safety and registration of trekkers. Luxury Holidays Nepal handles all permit arrangements for its clients to ensure compliance with local regulations.

    Gear and Equipment

Proper gear is essential for a safe and comfortable trekking experience. Key items include a good quality backpack, trekking boots, season-appropriate clothing, a sleeping bag, and a down jacket. Specific gear such as walking poles, hats, gloves, and thermal layers are also recommended due to the varying temperatures and terrain. Luxury Holidays Nepal provides a detailed packing list and can offer rental options for major trekking equipment.

    Environmental Considerations

Preserving the natural and cultural environment of the Himalayas is a priority. Trekkers are encouraged to follow Leave No Trace principles, which include disposing of waste properly, minimizing the impact on trails, and respecting wildlife. Firewood is scarce, and the use of renewable fuel sources is promoted in lodges to prevent deforestation.

Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek FAQs

    1. General Faqs for the Trek

Why trek with Luxury Holidays Nepal?

At Luxury Holidays Nepal, we provide an unparalleled trekking experience, combining adventure with comfort. Our treks include well-organized itineraries, professional guides, and premium services. We offer everything from luxury accommodations and transportation to high-quality equipment. Safety, guest satisfaction, and sustainable practices are at the heart of our operations. Our expert team ensures personalized service, making every trek a memorable and rewarding journey.

What should I know about booking my flights to/from Nepal? Do I need to plan extra days in case of delays?

When booking your international flights to Nepal, we recommend arriving at least one or two days before your trek begins. Domestic flights to trekking regions like Lukla (for Everest) or Jomsom (for Mustang) are subject to weather conditions and can occasionally be delayed or canceled. Planning for extra days before and after your trek provides flexibility in case of any unforeseen delays. This will also allow you to explore more of Kathmandu or rest before your adventure.

Is hiring a guide necessary even if I have trekking experience?

While experienced trekkers may feel confident navigating Nepal's trails independently, hiring a guide is highly recommended. A guide ensures your safety, helps with navigating the sometimes tricky trails, provides local insights, and handles permits and logistics. In case of emergencies, a guide can coordinate necessary rescue operations or medical help. Additionally, having a guide enriches your cultural experience, as they provide context and knowledge about the area.

    Can the guide speak English?

Yes, all our guides at Luxury Holidays Nepal are fluent in English and have excellent communication skills. They are highly trained, licensed professionals with deep knowledge of the trekking routes, local culture, and traditions. Many guides also speak other languages, depending on the group’s needs, and are adept at ensuring guests' comfort and safety.

What is the best time of year to trek in Nepal?

The best seasons for trekking in Nepal are during the autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May). Autumn offers clear skies, excellent mountain views, and moderate temperatures, while spring brings beautiful blooms, especially rhododendrons, making the trails picturesque.

Do I need a visa for Nepal, and how do I get one?

Yes, most travelers will need a visa to enter Nepal. You can obtain a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Alternatively, you can apply for a visa through a Nepalese embassy or consulate in your country. Make sure to carry passport-sized photos and US dollars to pay the visa fee.

What type of accommodation can I expect during the trek?

For standard treks, accommodation is in tea houses (basic lodges) along the trekking route. They offer simple rooms with twin beds and shared bathrooms. For those opting for luxury treks, we offer stays at luxury lodges, such as Mountain Lodges of Nepal, with upgraded rooms, private bathrooms, and enhanced comfort.

Do I need travel insurance for trekking?

Yes, travel insurance is mandatory for trekking in Nepal. Your insurance should cover high-altitude trekking (above 4,000m) and helicopter evacuation in case of an emergency. We highly recommend double-checking your policy to ensure it meets all necessary requirements for your trek.

What kind of food is available during the trek?

During the trek, you can expect hearty meals, often a mix of traditional Nepali dishes (like dal bhat), pasta, noodles, soups, and bread. The menus in tea houses are basic but nutritious, helping you stay energized. Luxury trekking packages offer more diverse meal options, including international dishes and fresh ingredients.

What happens if I get altitude sickness?

Our guides are trained in managing altitude sickness and will monitor your health during the trek. If you experience symptoms of altitude sickness, we will take the necessary steps, such as slowing down, descending to a lower altitude, or, in severe cases, arranging for a helicopter evacuation (if covered by your insurance). Acclimatization days are built into our itineraries to reduce the risk.

What should I pack for my trek?

We provide a detailed packing list before your trip, which includes essentials like proper trekking boots, warm layers, a down jacket, a sleeping bag, sun protection, and personal toiletries. For some treks, we offer equipment like duffel bags, sleeping bags, and trekking poles.

Can I charge my devices during the trek?

Yes, most tea houses offer charging facilities for a small fee. However, it is advisable to carry a portable power bank as electricity may not always be reliable, especially at higher altitudes.

What is the best time to trek Everest Base Camp?

The best time to trek to Everest Base Camp is during the pre-monsoon (March to May) and post-monsoon (September to November) seasons. The teahouses offer a variety of meals including Nepali, Tibetan, and basic Western dishes such as pasta, noodles, rice, soups, and potatoes. Meals are hearty, providing enough energy for long trekking days.

Is the food in the mountains prepared to international standards in terms of safety?

Yes, food is prepared to basic safety standards in the teahouses. However, hygiene levels may vary, so it’s a good idea to choose well-established lodges and carry hand sanitizer.

    I'm a vegetarian. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Vegetarian meals are widely available along the Everest Base Camp trek. Most teahouses offer options like vegetable soups, dal bhat (lentils and rice), and vegetable noodles or rice.

Can I charge my electronic equipment during the trek?

Yes, you can charge your electronics at most teahouses, but this typically comes at an extra cost. The higher you go, the more expensive the charging fees become, so carrying a portable power bank is recommended.

    9. Health and Safety

Do your guides have the trekking guide certificates from the Hotel Management and Tourism Center? Have they received first aid training for high altitudes?

Yes, all of our guides are certified trekking guides from the Hotel Management and Tourism Training Center in Nepal. Additionally, they have undergone first aid training for high-altitude trekking and are experienced in managing altitude sickness and emergencies.

What are safety measures in place? What safety equipment do your guides carry on the trek to deal with sickness/accidents?

Safety is our top priority. Our guides carry first aid kits equipped with medicines and basic supplies for altitude sickness, injuries, and other health issues. They are trained to use oxygen supplies and Portable Altitude Chambers (PAC) in case of severe altitude sickness. We also have an emergency evacuation plan in place for helicopter rescues if necessary.

How do you allocate guides and porters in a group?

We allocate one guide for every group of trekkers, and for larger groups, additional assistant guides are assigned to ensure safety and manage the group effectively. We allocate one porter for every two trekkers to carry luggage, ensuring that both trekkers and porters are comfortable during the trek.

Is Luxury Holidays Nepal’s staff insured?

Yes, all staff members, including guides and porters, are insured by Luxury Holidays Nepal. Their insurance covers medical emergencies, accidents, and evacuation during the trek.

    What vaccinations will I need?

It is recommended to have vaccinations for Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus, and Diphtheria before traveling to Nepal. Consult your doctor for a full list of vaccinations and advice on any additional precautions based on your travel history and current health.

What if I am very sick in the mountain?

If you become seriously ill during the trek, our guides will assess your condition and take necessary measures. If needed, you will be brought to a lower altitude, and in severe cases, we will arrange an emergency helicopter evacuation to Kathmandu for further medical treatment.

Do you guys have a PAC (Portable Altitude Chamber)?

Yes, we have access to a Portable Altitude Chamber (PAC) in case of an emergency. While it is not typically essential to carry during the trek, we can arrange for one upon request for an extra cost of USD 200. The PAC is used to simulate lower altitude conditions and is helpful in cases of severe altitude sickness.

Do you provide oxygen supply if needed?

Yes, guesthouses at higher elevations such as Lobuche and Gorak Shep offer oxygen at an extra cost if needed. The cost of oxygen can be high, so we recommend having travel insurance to help with reimbursements.

We can also provide pre-booked oxygen for an extra cost of USD 200 for one oxygen tank, which can be carried along with you from Namche to higher elevations for use as necessary during the trek.

How are acclimatization and altitude related?

Acclimatization is the process of allowing your body to adjust to the reduced oxygen levels at higher altitudes. On the Everest Base Camp trek, we build in acclimatization days at key points to help your body adapt gradually, which reduces the risk of altitude sickness.

    10. Practical Matters for the Trek

    What is your cancellation policy?

Notice should be provided 20 days before the trip start date in case of cancellation. The trip can be canceled for justifiable reasons, and a fee of 30% of the trip cost is retained for administrative costs. If the trip is canceled within 20 days, the trip amount is non-refundable as per our terms and conditions.

For submitting a claim to your insurance company after cancellation, we can assist with documentation such as a receipt for the payments made. Refunds will not be provided for unused accommodation in case of trip cancellation caused by personal reasons, sickness, or weather conditions.

More information about our cancellation policy can be found on the Terms and Conditions page.

Do I need to tip my guide and porter? How much would that be?

Tipping is customary in Nepal. We recommend tipping around USD 10-15 per day for your guide and USD 8-10 per day for your porter. The amount is discretionary and can be adjusted based on your satisfaction with their services.

Is there any communication while we are trekking?

Yes, communication is available at various points along the trek. Most teahouses have Wi-Fi, but the connection can be slow and may require an extra fee. Mobile networks are available in certain areas, though coverage can be patchy at higher altitudes.

What is the Internet availability in the Everest region?

For internet usage, the Everest region has a network called Everest Link. You can purchase 6GB of data for NPR 600-800 (USD 5-7) that can be used at one destination, or NPR 2500 (USD 21) for 10GB of data, which can be used in all regions with access to Everest Link. The purchase is valid for one device only.

Some teahouses also offer Wi-Fi hotspots for an additional charge, but the connection may be unreliable. It is recommended that you either purchase Everest Link or use a 3G/4G SIM card for the duration of your trek

Does it cost an extra amount if I am a solo traveler?

If you are a solo traveler and book one of our published dates, there is no additional fee. However, if you sign up for a private trip or request a change of the trip date from one of our published dates, you may be charged an additional fee.

Is there a provision for a refund policy if I don't accomplish the trek?

Can I add extra days to my trekking trip?

Yes, we offer the flexibility to add extra days to your trekking itinerary, whether for additional acclimatization or exploration. This can be arranged in advance or during the trek, depending on your preferences and schedule.

    11. Transportation and Flight for Trek

Do I need to book my international flights for the travel to Nepal?

Yes, you are responsible for booking your own international flights to and from Kathmandu. We can provide advice on suitable arrival and departure times based on your trek schedule, but the flight bookings must be made by the traveler.

What form of transportation do you utilize?

For ground transportation, we provide private vehicles (cars, jeeps, or buses) depending on the group size. For trekking regions such as Lukla, we arrange domestic flights. In certain cases, helicopter flights are also available as an alternative to domestic flights.

Can we fly by plane to Lukla directly from the Kathmandu airport?

The flight to Lukla depends on the trekking season. During peak trekking seasons (March, April, May, October, and November), the air traffic at Kathmandu airport is congested, so flights to Lukla may depart from Manthali Airport in the Ramechhap district. However, during the off-season, you can take a flight directly from Kathmandu airport to Lukla.

How can I reach Manthali Airport, Ramechhap? Do the airlines provide shuttle services to get to Manthali from Kathmandu?

You can reach Manthali Airport by vehicle, and the journey takes about 4 to 5 hours (depending on traffic). Usually, airlines provide shuttle services that depart around 3 AM from Kathmandu (depending on the flight time). If airlines do not provide transportation, Luxury Holidays Nepal can arrange a private vehicle for you.

For early morning Lukla flights, you may need to travel to Manthali the day before and stay overnight. More information will be shared with you 2 to 3 weeks before you arrive in Kathmandu.

What sort of bus services can I expect to reach Manthali Airport from Kathmandu?

Vehicles such as Toyota Hiace or Mahindra Scorpio or EV Vans are commonly used for shuttle services between Kathmandu and Manthali. Although the road to Manthali is bumpy, sloping, and winding, the vehicles provided are comfortable for the journey.

Is there a possibility of flying to Kathmandu from Lukla by plane directly after the trek?

The flight from Lukla to Kathmandu depends on the trekking season. During peak trekking seasons (March, April, May, October, and November), direct flights to Kathmandu may not be possible due to heavy air traffic. In these cases, flights land at Manthali Airport in the Ramechhap district.

What are the main reasons for Lukla flight delay or cancellation?

The major reason for Lukla flight delays or cancellations is bad weather conditions, such as poor visibility. Other reasons include congested air traffic at Kathmandu Airport, staffing shortages, or technical issues.

Is there any alternative option if my flight to and from Lukla is canceled or delayed?

If your flight to or from Lukla is canceled or delayed due to weather or other conditions, you may opt for a chartered helicopter. Helicopters can operate in weather conditions where planes cannot. The cost for a helicopter is typically around USD 550 per person (one way), based on 5 passengers sharing. These expenses are not covered by Luxury Holidays Nepal, so it's advisable to have funds available and comprehensive travel insurance to cover these costs.

We will provide all necessary documents, such as receipts and letters, to help you claim these expenses through your insurance.

Is it possible to book a helicopter flight instead of a regular flight between Lukla and Kathmandu?

Yes, you can book a helicopter flight instead of a regular domestic flight between Kathmandu and Lukla. The cost is USD 550 per person (one way), based on 5 passengers sharing the helicopter.

How much should I pay for a private Helicopter charter?

A private helicopter charter from Kathmandu to Lukla costs around USD 3,500 one way, and from Manthali to Lukla, it costs USD 2,500 one way. The helicopter can carry up to 5 passengers, so the cost can be shared among the group. If other trekkers from Luxury Holidays Nepal are sharing the flight, the cost may be reduced.

What is the weight limit in a helicopter?

The weight limit in a helicopter depends on the number of passengers. For a typical 5-passenger helicopter, the individual weight limit is around 80 kg (176 lbs) per passenger, with a luggage limit of 15 kg (33 lbs) per person. The total load capacity for the helicopter ranges from 475 to 575 kg (1,047 to 1,267 lbs), including passengers and luggage.
