We recommend booking your international flights to arrive in Kathmandu by the evening of Day 1 and planning your departure from Kathmandu after breakfast on the final day.

    Nepal Visa Information

A Nepal entry visa is required for most international visitors and can be easily obtained upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. You will need a valid passport, passport-sized photos, and visa fees (payable in cash). Tourist visas are available in multiple options, including 15-day, 30-day, and 90-day stays. It is also possible to apply for a visa online in advance via the Department of Immigration website for faster processing. Please check the latest requirements and fees with your nearest Nepali embassy or consulate before travel.

    Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance is required for this tour and should include coverage for trip cancellation, interruption, medical expenses, evacuation, and repatriation. While this luxury itinerary is designed for a comfortable experience, travel insurance safeguards you against unexpected events, such as medical emergencies or delays. Make sure your insurance policy covers all planned activities, including white-water rafting in Trishuli and the safari in Chitwan, and have a copy of your policy with you during the trip.

    Health and Physical Fitness

This itinerary is suitable for travelers with moderate fitness levels, as it involves a mix of cultural sightseeing, short walks, and adventure activities like rafting and jungle safaris. Health considerations include the need for general physical fitness and readiness to handle activities such as rafting, which requires a basic level of endurance and strength. We recommend consulting your physician before the trip, especially if you have pre-existing medical conditions. Staying hydrated, getting adequate rest, and maintaining a balanced diet will help ensure a pleasant experience in Nepal’s varied climates and terrains.

    Weather Conditions

Nepal's weather varies significantly depending on the region and altitude. For tours involving Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan, you can expect mild to warm temperatures during the day and cooler evenings. Kathmandu and Pokhara can have daytime temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C in the warmer months, while nights may cool down to around 10°C. Chitwan is generally warmer, especially during jungle activities. Always check the local weather forecast closer to your travel dates and pack accordingly, including layers for varying temperatures and rain gear for unexpected showers.

    Cultural Considerations

Nepal is rich in cultural diversity and religious practices. When visiting religious sites, dressing modestly is required; shoulders and knees should be covered, and shoes removed when entering temples. Respect local customs and traditions, and always ask for permission before taking photographs of people or religious ceremonies. It is also polite to greet people with a traditional "Namaste" (hands pressed together at the chest).

    Tipping Guidelines

Tipping is customary and appreciated in Nepal for services rendered. For guides and drivers, a general guideline is around USD 5-10 per day from each tourist, depending on the level of service. In restaurants, a tip of 5-10% of the bill is standard if a service charge hasn't already been added. For porters and other service staff, a smaller tip of around USD 1-2 per service or per day is appropriate.

    Safety & Security

Nepal is generally safe for travelers. However, it's advisable to take standard precautions as you would when traveling anywhere. Keep your belongings secure, especially in crowded places, and use registered taxis or transport arranged by your hotel. For outdoor activities like rafting and jungle safaris, ensure that you follow the safety briefings and use the safety gear provided. Be aware of local wildlife and follow the guide's instructions during safaris.

    Currency and Money Matters

The currency of Nepal is the Nepalese Rupee (NPR). Currency exchange facilities are readily available at the airport, banks, and authorized exchange counters in cities. ATMs are widely available in Kathmandu and Pokhara but may be less prevalent in rural or remote areas like Chitwan. Credit cards are accepted in most hotels and larger shops and restaurants; however, having local currency on hand for smaller purchases and in rural areas is advisable. Always notify your bank of your travel plans to avoid any issues with card usage abroad.

    Transportation

Transport throughout the tour is provided in comfortable private vehicles, ensuring reliable and safe travel between destinations. For domestic flights, the tour includes a flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu. In cities, registered taxis and rideshare services are available for additional personal excursions. For more remote areas, transportation options might be limited to local buses or hired vehicles through the tour provider.

    Electricity and Charging

Nepal uses 220-240 volts, with a frequency of 50 Hz. The common plug types are types C, D, and M, which are two or three round pins. It's advisable to bring a universal adapter if your devices use different plugs. Power outages, known locally as load-shedding, can occur, though many hotels and guesthouses have backup generators. For trekking or remote areas, consider carrying additional battery packs or solar chargers.

    Festivals and Public Holidays

Nepal is known for its vibrant festivals and public holidays, most of which are based on the lunar calendar, hence their dates change yearly. Major festivals include Dashain and Tihar, which are celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country. Participating in these festivals can provide insightful cultural experiences; however, it’s important to note that during major holidays, transportation and other services might be limited as locals take time off to celebrate.

    Food and Dining

Nepalese cuisine is varied and influenced by its ethnic diversity and geography. Typical meals include dal bhat (lentil soup, rice, and vegetables), momos (dumplings), and a variety of curries. Vegetarian options are widely available, reflecting the dietary habits influenced by Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Restaurants in tourist areas offer a range of cuisines to cater to international tastes. Drinking water from taps is not recommended; always opt for bottled water or water that has been purified.

    Cancellations and Weather-Related Changes

Weather in Nepal can impact travel plans, especially during monsoon season (June to August) or in winter months in high-altitude areas. It’s advisable to have flexible travel plans and be prepared for potential changes or cancellations due to weather. Tour operators generally offer alternatives or refunds based on their cancellation policies, which should be reviewed at the time of booking.

    Language and Communication

Nepali is the official language, but many people in urban areas and the tourism sector speak English. Basic English is commonly understood in areas frequented by tourists. For deeper interactions, especially in rural areas, consider learning basic Nepali phrases or hiring a local guide. Mobile network coverage is good in cities and major towns but can be spotty in remote areas. Wi-Fi is available in most hotels and many cafes in larger cities.
