  • For helicopter flights (Kathmandu-Dhulikhel-Kathmandu), private helicopter transfers will be arranged, offering scenic aerial views and convenient transportation.
  • It is recommended to book international flights that arrive in Kathmandu one day before the tour start date to allow flexibility in case of delays.

Nepal Visa Information

  • A visa is required for all travelers visiting Nepal, which can be easily obtained upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
  • Visa requirements may vary by nationality, so it is advised to check specific entry requirements before travel. Typically, travelers can acquire a tourist visa valid for 15, 30, or 90 days.
  • The visa fee is not included in the tour package and must be paid at the airport in cash (USD is commonly accepted). Be prepared with a passport-sized photo for the visa application.
  • For convenience, it is also possible to apply for an e-visa online before departure, which can speed up the process upon arrival.

Travel Insurance

  • Travel insurance is not included in the package but is highly recommended for all travelers. The insurance should cover trip cancellation, medical emergencies, evacuation, and any unforeseen interruptions.
  • Adventure activities like jungle safaris and helicopter flights are part of the itinerary, so ensure the insurance policy includes coverage for such activities.
  • Insurance is essential in case of unexpected health issues, travel disruptions, or emergency evacuations due to altitude sickness or other emergencies.
  • Travelers should carry a copy of their insurance policy and emergency contact information while on the tour.

Health and Physical Fitness

  • This tour includes light trekking, village walks, and jungle activities, so travelers should have a moderate level of physical fitness. No extensive hiking experience is required.
  • It is advised to consult a healthcare provider before the trip to ensure you are physically prepared, especially for high-altitude areas such as Dhulikhel.
  • Staying hydrated and taking time to acclimate to the higher altitudes in Kathmandu and Dhulikhel is important for health and comfort.
  • Chitwan’s jungle activities require general fitness, as they involve walking and possibly climbing into safari vehicles. A tetanus booster and malaria prophylaxis may be recommended for those participating in jungle safaris, though Chitwan is a low-risk area.

Weather Conditions

  • Nepal has diverse weather patterns depending on the region and season. The best time to visit is typically from October to April when the weather is mild, skies are clear, and there’s less rainfall.
  • Kathmandu and Dhulikhel: These regions have mild temperatures in spring and autumn, with chilly mornings and evenings, especially in higher altitudes. Winter (December to February) can be cold, so warm clothing is recommended.
  • Chitwan: Known for its subtropical climate, Chitwan is warm and humid most of the year. Winter months are pleasant with mild temperatures, but summer (June to August) can be hot, with heavy rainfall due to the monsoon season.
  • Packing light layers, warm clothing for the evening, and rain protection (if visiting in monsoon season) is advised for a comfortable experience.

Cultural Considerations

  • Nepal is a culturally rich and diverse country with customs rooted in Hinduism and Buddhism. Visitors are encouraged to dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites.
  • When entering temples or monasteries, always remove shoes and be respectful of religious practices. Photography inside some temples may be restricted.
  • Public displays of affection are generally avoided, and it’s customary to greet with a “Namaste” (hands pressed together).
  • When visiting local villages or markets, avoid wearing revealing clothing and be respectful of local customs. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people or sacred places.
  • Tipping, although not mandatory, is appreciated, especially for guides, drivers, and hotel staff. Small gestures of respect and curiosity about local customs are always well-received by Nepali hosts.

Tipping Guidelines

  • Tipping is customary in Nepal and is an appreciated way to show gratitude for good service.
  • Guides and Porters: For guides and porters, it is recommended to tip around $10-$15 per day for guides and $8-$10 per day for porters, based on service quality and length of tour.
  • Drivers: Tipping drivers around $5-$10 per day is appropriate, depending on the amount of driving and level of service provided.
  • Hotel and Restaurant Staff: Tipping 10% of the bill in restaurants or a small amount for hotel staff (around $1-$2) for room service or other assistance is appreciated.
  • It’s advisable to carry small denominations of cash for tipping, as many establishments may not have change for larger bills.

Safety & Security

  • Nepal is generally a safe travel destination, with friendly locals and low crime rates, especially in tourist areas. However, taking standard safety precautions is recommended.
  • Always be mindful of your belongings in crowded places and avoid displaying valuable items openly.
  • Avoid walking alone in secluded areas, especially at night, and stick to well-lit and busy streets.
For jungle activities in Chitwan, always follow the guidance of park rangers and guides to ensure safety around wildlife.
  • In case of a health or security emergency, travelers can access reliable healthcare facilities in Kathmandu and have access to police and emergency services in major tourist areas.

Currency and Money Matters

  • The official currency of Nepal is the Nepalese Rupee (NPR). Cash is widely used, especially in rural areas, so carrying some local currency is advisable.
  • ATMs are available in Kathmandu and major towns, though they may charge a transaction fee.
  • Currency exchange is available at airports, banks, and authorized money exchange counters.
  • Major hotels and high-end restaurants accept credit cards, but smaller vendors and shops may only take cash.
  • It’s a good idea to keep small denominations for day-to-day expenses and tips, as larger bills may not be easily changeable in remote areas.
  • Travelers are advised to inform their banks about their trip to Nepal to avoid issues with card transactions and to use secure ATMs to avoid potential card skimming.

Transportation

  • All transportation for this tour, including airport transfers, sightseeing trips, and intercity travel, is arranged in a private, comfortable vehicle. This ensures a relaxed and secure journey throughout the trip.
  • Domestic flights between Kathmandu and Chitwan, as well as private helicopter transfers to and from Dhulikhel, are included, offering convenient and scenic travel options.
  • Kathmandu has limited public transport options, and travelers are advised to rely on the private arrangements made through the tour operator for a hassle-free experience.
  • Walking is common in cultural areas, so comfortable shoes are recommended for exploring Kathmandu’s UNESCO sites and village areas in Dhulikhel.

Electricity and Charging

  • Nepal operates on a 230V/50Hz power supply, and the common plug types are C, D, and M. Travelers from countries with different voltage systems may need a voltage converter in addition to a plug adapter.
  • Power outages can occasionally occur, especially in remote areas. Many hotels and resorts have backup generators to ensure a continuous power supply.
  • Bringing a portable charger or power bank is recommended for keeping devices charged during excursions, particularly in rural or remote areas.
  • Hotels typically offer charging outlets, but it’s best to bring all necessary adapters to accommodate various types of plugs used in Nepal.

Festivals and Public Holidays

  • Nepal celebrates numerous festivals throughout the year, rooted in Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Major festivals include Dashain (September/October), Tihar (October/November), and Holi (March), where public celebrations and rituals are held across the country.
  • During festivals, certain attractions may have limited hours or closures, and transportation may be busier than usual, so travelers should plan accordingly.
  • Festivals offer a unique opportunity to experience Nepal’s vibrant culture. Visitors should respect local customs during these times, as religious sites and ceremonies may attract large gatherings.
  • Public holidays vary, so it’s advised to check the holiday calendar in advance and consult the tour operator for any changes to the itinerary.

Food and Dining

  • Nepali cuisine is flavorful, with staple dishes like dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), momo (dumplings), and curries available at most dining spots. Western and international cuisine options are also available at major hotels and tourist areas.
  • Kathmandu and other urban areas offer a range of dining options, from traditional Nepali restaurants to international eateries. In Chitwan and Dhulikhel, expect a mix of local and resort dining.
  • The tour includes breakfast daily and full board meals in Chitwan. Lunch and dinner in other locations are at the traveler’s discretion unless specified in the itinerary.
  • Drinking bottled or purified water is recommended, as tap water may not be safe for drinking. Most hotels and restaurants offer bottled water.

Cancellations and Weather-Related Changes

  • Nepal’s weather can sometimes be unpredictable, especially during the monsoon season (June to August), which may cause delays or changes in flight schedules and outdoor activities.
  • Helicopter and domestic flights are weather-dependent; in case of delays or cancellations, the tour operator will work to reschedule or offer suitable alternatives.
  • Travelers should review the cancellation policy for accommodations and flights. Travel insurance covering weather-related delays is recommended to mitigate potential costs.
  • If specific activities cannot be completed due to weather, the tour operator will make alternative arrangements to ensure a fulfilling experience.

Language and Communication

  • Nepali is the official language of Nepal, but English is widely spoken in tourist areas, hotels, and restaurants, especially by guides and staff working in the tourism industry.
  • Guides are English-speaking, ensuring clear communication and a smooth tour experience. Translators for other languages may be available upon request.
  • Wi-Fi is available at most hotels, particularly in Kathmandu, Dhulikhel, and Chitwan, though speeds may vary. Some rural or remote areas may have limited connectivity.
  • Purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival is recommended for reliable communication and internet access, especially for activities outside main city areas.

Packing Essentials

  • Due to the variety of climates experienced in Kathmandu, Dhulikhel, and Chitwan, packing layers is recommended. Lightweight, breathable clothing is best for Chitwan’s warmer climate, while warmer layers are needed for the cooler mornings and evenings in Kathmandu and Dhulikhel.
  • Essentials include comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent for Chitwan, and a waterproof jacket if visiting during monsoon season.
  • A reusable water bottle with a filter is recommended to stay hydrated, along with any personal medication and a small first-aid kit.

Customs and Etiquette

  • Visitors are encouraged to show respect for local customs and traditions. When visiting religious sites, dress modestly, remove shoes before entering, and avoid pointing your feet toward religious icons.
  • Offering a small donation at temples is customary, though not required. It’s polite to ask before taking photos of people, particularly in rural areas.
  • In Nepalese culture, it’s common to use the right hand when eating, giving, or receiving, as the left hand is considered unclean.

Altitude Awareness

  • Although this itinerary doesn’t include high-altitude trekking, Kathmandu and Dhulikhel sit at moderate elevations that some travelers may feel slightly.
  • Travelers are advised to stay hydrated, avoid excessive physical exertion on the first day, and give themselves time to acclimate, especially if they are not accustomed to higher altitudes.
  • In case of any discomfort, the guides are trained to assist with recommendations and can provide access to nearby medical facilities if needed.

Sustainable Travel Tips

  • Travelers are encouraged to be environmentally conscious by reducing plastic waste, conserving water, and respecting natural surroundings, particularly in Chitwan National Park.
  • Opting for reusable water bottles, bags, and eco-friendly toiletries can reduce plastic usage. Many hotels provide filtered water stations.
  • Respect wildlife by following park regulations in Chitwan, keeping a safe distance from animals, and avoiding loud noises to preserve their natural habitats.

Shopping and Souvenirs

  • Nepal offers a wide variety of traditional handicrafts, such as pashmina, thangka paintings, handcrafted jewelry, and woodwork. Thamel in Kathmandu is a popular shopping district for souvenirs.
  • Bargaining is common in local markets but is expected to be polite and respectful. Fixed prices may apply in larger stores and specialty shops.
  • It is advised to avoid purchasing products made from animal parts to support ethical wildlife conservation efforts.

Emergency Contacts and Local Support

  • Luxury Holidays Nepal will provide 24/7 local support during the tour. Emergency contact details for the tour operator, local hospitals, and police will be provided upon arrival.
  • In case of emergencies, travelers should keep copies of their passports, insurance policies, and important contact numbers easily accessible.
  • Nepal’s emergency contact numbers are 100 (police) and 102 (ambulance), and guides will have immediate access to support in case of any urgent situations.
