Machhapuchhre Base Camp

Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC) is a spectacular high-altitude stop on the way to Annapurna Base Camp, located at an elevation of 3,700 meters (12,139 feet) in the Annapurna Sanctuary. Nestled beneath the majestic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain)—a sacred, unclimbed peak revered by the local Gurung people—MBC offers jaw-dropping views of snow-covered peaks, including Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, and Gangapurna. The trail leading to MBC from Deurali winds through glacial moraines and alpine landscapes, becoming noticeably more rugged and dramatic. Most trekkers stop here to rest and acclimatize before heading to Annapurna Base Camp, just a few hours farther along the trail.

Apart from its scenic beauty, MBC provides a peaceful atmosphere surrounded by towering Himalayan giants, making it an ideal place for photography, reflection, and rest. Basic teahouses and lodges at MBC cater to trekkers, offering warm meals and shelter amidst the harsh alpine environment. As you move higher, the landscape becomes more barren yet intensely beautiful, with the crisp mountain air and silence amplifying the sense of adventure. Whether you're on a classic ABC trek or seeking solitude in the mountains, Machhapuchhre Base Camp is a memorable milestone that captures the raw essence of the Annapurna region.
